These 2 sessions will present and attempt to quantify the energy impacts of new technologies used in commercial refrigeration. We will discuss EC motors used both on the low side as well as on the high side, evaporator demand defrost control, floating head pressure, and engineering for the future utilizing digital compression technology.

Part 1: Evaporators and Condensing Units
We will discuss EC motor use on evaporators as well as recent defrost on demand test results. This session will include the data behind 2 recent ASHRAE Energy Award winning technologies.

Part 2: Air-Cooled Condensers and Beyond
We will present and quantify the energy impacts of EC motor use on air-cooled condensers. We will also briefly touch on “engineering for the future” utilizing floating head controls, electronics, & newer digital compression technology.

John Murray – Executive Vice President, KeepRite Refrigeration
A Mechanical Engineer from the University of Missouri-Columbia, John has been with KeepRite Refrigeration since September of 2008. His current responsibilities include Global Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, Technical Support, & Warranty Claims.
Prior to KeepRite, John had been with Sporlan Valve Company (Parker Hannifin) since 1986. His most recent role was Vice President of Sales for North America with responsibility for all stationary air conditioning and commercial refrigeration component sales in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, both OEM and Aftermarket.
Prior positions include Sales Manager – Supermarkets & Commercial OEMs, Supermarket Sales & Applications Manager, Regional Sales Manager, District Sales Manager, and Sales Engineer.
John has been a member of ASHRAE since 1990 having served as Chairman and Voting Member of Technical Committee 10.7 (Commercial Food Display and Storage Equipment), a member of Special Projects Committee 72-1998R (Method of Testing Open and Closed Commercial Refrigerators and Freezers) and has been active on the associated TC10.7 Subcommittees (Research, Handbook, and Standards). He also represents KeepRite at the appropriate AHRI (Air Conditioning, Heating, & Refrigeration Institute) section meetings including Compressors & Condensing Units, Heat Transfer, and the Commercial Refrigerator Manufacturer’s Division.
