Letter from the President
Dear members of the ASHRAE St. Louis Chapter,
Welcome to the 2015-16 ASHRAE season. The next two years will be an exciting time for our chapter. We have major society and regional events coming up, a major chapter anniversary, and remarkable progress by our various committees.
First, this season will end with the 2016 ASHRAE Annual Conference being held in St. Louis between June 25th and 29th, 2016. I can’t thank our event chair, Vinny Stanec, enough for his leadership on this high-profile endeavor for our chapter. This is a big event, and will require many chapter volunteers to run smoothly. Vinny will reach out to the chapter over the next several months to ask for help. Thanks in advance to all of the folks who assist. Learn more at: http://tiny.cc/tsf90x
Second, preparations have begun for the St. Louis Chapter to host the Region VI CRC in the Spring of 2017. Yes, you read that right, that’s a major event hosted by our chapter in each of the next two years. Another one of our past presidents, Brian Ingenthron, has graciously agreed to chair the CRC 2017 committee. The committee has already made huge progress over the past several months, and I’m excited to see it develop more over this season. Just like the Annual Conference, this one will require many volunteers from our chapter.
Third, we have a major milestone in the not-too-distant future. Our chapter was originally chartered by society in 1917, making this our 98th year. It will be exciting to host CRC in St. Louis during our 100 year anniversary. More to come over the next year…
Finally, the BOG and committee chairs have done a great job over the past few years. The level of engagement by our leaders has been off the charts. The president may be the head of the chapter, but it’s the hard work and commitment of our volunteers that really make the chapter function. I know that the dedication I’ve seen so far in planning the 2015-16 season will make me proud to serve as president.
We’ve had steadily increasing attendance for our meetings over the last several years. I credit the hard work by our programs committee. Chris Swallow, our current programs committee chair, won’t let last year’s attendance remain a record for long. He’s already on pace to bring engaging speakers to our chapter, and blow last year’s attendance numbers out of the water. Stay tuned on the chapter website for news regarding chapter meeting topics and speakers.
Bringing new, young members into our chapter is one of the secrets to our tremendous longevity (98 years!) and attendance. Our student activities chair, Danny McGrail, isn’t satisfied with the number of existing university chapters, so he’s already set plans to start a new chapter at MU (and the year has barely even started). Our YEA chair, Mike Mosbacher, isn’t satisfied with the status-quo either. He’s already begun planning special events for the YEA members this season.
I could go on and on about the astounding work being done by our volunteers, but I have to end this letter someplace! Stay tuned by visiting our website on a regular basis (ashrae-stl.org), and by reading these newsletters. We have many opportunities for our members to learn and to network over the course of the year. Don’t miss out!
