Letter from the President
The 2015-16 season is nearly complete, but the next few months will be busy! Major upcoming events include:
- Golf Tournament – May 16th
- Chapter Annual Meeting – April 18th
- CRC in Madison – April 28-30
- ASHRAE Annual Meeting in St. Louis – June 25-29
The final chapter meeting of the season will be April 18th. During our Annual Meeting, we’ll install our 2016-17 officers, recognize this year’s technology award winners, and give scholarship awards. If last year is any indication, this will be a popular event! Watch the website for more news.
The golf tournament is coming up in May as well. Watch the website for more details to come. The invitations to past teams should already be in motion. We hope to see another fantastic turn-out.
Consider attending CRC in Madison, WI this year. We’ll be at the Monona Terrace and Convention Center in Madison April 28th-30th. We strongly encourage all board members and committee chairs to attend, as well as anybody in the chapter who would like to expand their involvement in ASHRAE. It’s always a tremendous educational and networking opportunity. Link: http://ashraemadison.org/content.php?page=Region_VI_2016_CRC_1
Finally, we’re nearing the ASHRAE Annual Meeting, June 25th-29th. This is a big one for our chapter. Vinny and team have been working for the last couple years to make this possible, and they’re going to knock it out of the park. Make sure to plan early to attend. This is a major event and a rare opportunity for our chapter. Link: http://ashraem.confex.com/ashraem/s16/cfp.cgi

YEA Group Events
The Young Engineers in ASHRAE group participated in a trivia night in February to benefit Engineers Without Borders. There was good enough attendance to support two tables and everyone had a good time, even though we didn’t come close to winning. The March happy hour at Nick’s Pub in Dogtown was a success with friendly games of pool in the upstairs bar, as well as delicious beer pretzels and beverages.
Golf Tournament Coming Up
The 30th annual St. Louis ASHRAE Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held once again on Monday May 16th at the Spencer T. Olin Golf Course in East Alton Illinois. This annual tournament is the primary source of income for the scholarships that are awarded each year. Last years scholarships totaled over $8000, and we hope to do the same this year. Save the date and start getting your foursome together now! For more information, contact Committee Chairman Brian Ingenthron at 314-963-0057.

SIUC Student Chapter Receives Research Grant
Congratulations go to the student chapter at SIUC for receiving one of ASHRAE’s Senior Undergraduate Project grants. Dr. Emmanuel Nsofor will serve as faculty advisor in the Mechanical Engineering and Energy Processes department. The project will research “Solar Energy PCM Storage Combined with Solar-Powered Water Purification.” The goal is for a group of senior students to design and construct this system which will be used to demonstrate how the problem of providing energy and adequate clean water for enhancing the lives of people in many parts of the world can be solved. Research will take place August 2016 to July 2017 and will be tied to a senior design course and in the long-term, will serve as a teaching tool for many years going forward, impacting about 300 students per semester.
2016 Annual Conference in St. Louis
The next ASHRAE conference will be in St. Louis! Join us for a multi-day jam-packed conference full of technical sessions and committee meetings. Social events include a Plenary Session featuring Chef Jeff Henderson, renowned celebrity chef and TV star, a Welcome Party at the Missouri History Museum, an after-party at the Thaxton to raise funds for Research Promotion, and Members’ Night Out featuring Push the Limit Band, voted #1 Party Band in St. Louis!
