The October meeting proved to be an educational experience, featuring Bill Bahnfleth, Distinguished Lecturer, Fellow ASHRAE and ASME, and 2013-2014 ASHRAE Society President. Bill is Professor and Director of the Indoor Environment Center in the Department of Architectural Engineering at Penn State. Previously, he was a Senior Consultant for ZBA, Inc. He holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering and is a registered professional engineer. He has authored numerous technical papers and books.
Bill spoke in both the Technical and Main Sessions. The Technical Session featured “The ASHRAE Building Energy Labeling Program” and explored the bEQ rating system, which has tracks for both new and existing buildings. The presentation provided an overview of the bEQ program and compared it to other building certification programs.
The Main Session topic was “Integrating Indoor Air Quality and Energy Efficiency in Buildings.” This session stressed the importance of indoor air quality, as it affects health and productivity of building occupants, while also addressing the concern of energy usage related to increased or minimum ventilation.
This meeting was the Research Promotion-themed meeting, so the RP committee was out front selling polos and raffle tickets to raise money for ASHRAE research. The polo deal is still going on, so check out how to get one!
Finally, the Board of Governors was recognized for, yet again, fulfilling St. Louis tradition and achieving Full Circle Status by each donating $100 to Research Promotion! Congratulations and thank you for your donation!
