  1. Name: Dan Krack
  2. Company and Position: After selling water treatment services at Quality Water Treatment (QWT), I have taken on 2 part time positions, one at R. L. Hulett Investment Bankers (consultant for mergers and acquisitions in HVAC and Water Treatment fields) and the other at Precision Water Technologies.
  3. What does your company do/provide? R. L. Hulett is a boutique investment banking firm based in Clayton. MO. We handle merger and acquisition activities for firms under $30 million dollars in annual sales. Precision Water Technologies is a regional water treatment firm in Dallas, TX.
  4. How long have you worked for them? How long have you worked in this industry? I have been in the water treatment field for 25 years and been with Precision Water Technologies since the beginning of 2015.
  5. How did you come to work in your field? I was lucky enough to get an appointment to West Point and after resigning my commission in the Army in 1989, I started doing water treatment. I started doing investment banking after I went through an acquisition with a company (Quality Water Treatment) that I sold and found out how interesting buy/sell transactions are.
  6. What is your main job function? What are you responsible for? With Precision Water Technologies, I do the estimating for water treatment for constructions projects in the Dallas market. With R. L. Hulett, I help put together deals in the water treatment industry nationwide and local deals in HVAC industry.
  7. What is the biggest challenge you face in your job? The biggest challenge in both jobs is getting new customers.
  8. What’s your favorite thing about working in this industry? The coolest thing about the water treatment industry is doing construction projects and getting to help build things.
  9. What’s your least favorite thing about working in this industry? The least favorite thing I have in a work environment is dealing with governmental agencies.
  10. What’s your involvement in ASHRAE? I have been in ASHRAE since 1992 and been on the board for 3 years.
  11. What is your responsibility on the Board? Currently, I am the treasurer and learning to use Quickbooks, our money management system.
  12. What advice would you give someone just graduating college and starting in the HVAC world? The best advice I could give to someone coming out of college is to start networking by joining professional trade associations like ASHRAE. I would also suggest going back and getting a Master’s Degree, particularly an MBA if you have any aspirations of being an entrepreneur. I would suggest night school.
  13. What’s something you’ve learned through your involvement in ASHRAE? The best thing I have learned through ASHRAE is seeing how the construction process works by meeting engineers, contractors, owners and manufacturing reps.
  14. What made you want to be involved in ASHRAE? I joined ASHRAE for the gourmet lunches (actually to network).
  15. Name one person who has been a mentor or an inspiration to you in your life. John Day, an engineer at Jarrell, is who got me involved in ASHRAE. He is a past Chapter President. John passed away a couple years back after a brief illness.
  16. Do you have a favorite sport or team? My favorite sports team is the Cardinals. I love football but the Rams are hard on the football lovers in St. Louis.
  17. What’s your favorite type of music or favorite band? I like a lot of different music… AC/DC, STYX, Johnny (Cash), disco (damm right!). I was in college in NY when disco was just wrapping up… Studio 54 was a riot, and I love musicals too (The Sound of Music is my favorite! Although Les Miserables with Anne Hathaway was fantastic. About the only thing I dislike is rap.
  18. What’s your favorite thing to do for fun? I love to snow ski and just got my season pass for Vail Company, and I run marathons… 42 and counting. I am trying to run a marathon in every state.
  19. Where is the coolest place you have traveled? My favorite places are Summit County, Colorado or maybe Jackson, Wyoming. Both are outdoor type places with a ton of skiing! My favorite place in St. Louis after Busch Stadium is The Muny.
  20. When you retire and have a lot more time on your hands, what will you do? I am semi-retired as we speak so I have been traveling, skiing, and running a lot. I hope to retire to a ski slope… Hidden Valley ain’t cutting it!
