Important update regarding the April 9th chapter meeting:
The original meeting invitation went out without a pre-meeting tech session established. We now have a tech session presenter confirmed. The tech session will begin at 10:45am at Spazio Westport, prior to the regular chapter meeting at noon on Monday, April 9th.

Duct Design Fundamentals
This technical program will review the fundamentals of ductwork design, with emphasis on total pressure and equal friction design calculations, and touch on the static pressure regain method. An Excel spreadsheet will be presented to facilitate total pressure calculations, with examples provided to emphasize pros and cons of the calculation procedures.
The goals of this presentation will be to help identify duct sections with higher pressure resistance, methods to minimize duct construction cost, and how to determine the total system resistance for fan sizing. Methods to refine a duct system for lowest operating cost will also be discussed.
Bio:
Robert L. Towell, P.E., QCxP, LEED AP is Vice President of CxE Group LLC, serves as the firm’s Commissioning Program Manager, and brings a wealth of building commissioning, energy analysis and large project management experience to the team. Bob is a registered engineer in the State of Missouri and four other states, and is a Qualified Commissioning Process Provider under the University Of Wisconsin College Of Engineering Certification Program, which was developed in association with the Building Commissioning Association.
Bob has over 30 years experience in building design and system analysis for a broad range of building and system types. Local projects of note include the Edward Jones Dome, Eagleton U.S. Courthouse, Metropolitan Square, and St. Louis Galleria (Phase 1). The Edward Jones Dome received a 1st Place national ASHRAE Technology Award in 1998 for Bob and his firm.
Bob is a member of the following technical societies: the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE, member since 1984), US Green Building Council (USGBC), Building Commissioning Association (BCxA), and National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). Bob graduated from the University of Illinois in 1977 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, where he also completed graduate studies in Advanced Control Theory and Optimization of Thermal Systems.
