The St. Louis Chapter has nominated one of its members, Danny Halel, for the ASHRAE Standards Achievement Award. This award recognizes excellence in volunteer service for developing ASHRAE Standards and/or Guidelines. It is a competitive award, meaning that only one winner is chosen among all nominees, so let’s keep our collective fingers crossed! Danny Halel is a very active volunteer in the Society, having served over 14 years on Standard 15 (one of ASHRAE’s flagship Standards), whose 2016 edition was published this past year. He is now Secretary for Standard 15 as it is being totally re-organized in format and re-written to incorporate Class 2L refrigerants. He also currently serves on SSPC 147 as its Chair, a Standard on release of halogenated refrigerants, which is of exceptional importance in combating global climate change. In his own words, Danny does this work for the betterment of the industry without regard to personal or employer agenda. He believes that as we help the industry we help all who operate within it.
The St. Louis Chapter has also recently nominated one of its members to become an ASHRAE Fellow (name remains confidential until acted upon by the ASHRAE Board of Directors). Fellow status recognizes distinction in the arts relating to the sciences of HVAC&R, or the allied arts and sciences, or in the teaching of major courses in HVAC, or who by reason of invention, research, teaching, design, original work, or as an engineering executive on projects of unusual or important scope, has made substantial contributions to the industry, and has been in good standing as a full grade Member for at least ten (10) years. The St. Louis Chapter has only two living Fellow Members; an oversight which the Honors & Awards Chair (Steve Duda) intends to rectify over the next few years. Send recommendations for ASHRAE Fellow to email@example.com for consideration.
