Hundreds of ASHRAE members and HVAC&R industry professionals converged on Atlanta, GA this past June for the Annual Summer Meeting. Each day involved numerous technical sessions on the various tracks of interest as well as Technical Committee meetings, Board meetings, and social events.
The Plenary Session kicked off the conference with keynote speaker, Gene Kranz, Apollo 13 NASA Flight Director, who told the harrowing story of the nearly catastrophic Apollo 13 manned mission to the moon. Later that night, the Welcome Party introduced conference attendees to the College Football Hall of Fame, where drinks, appetizers, and socializing was enjoyed by all.
Sunday included Technical Sessions and Technical Committee meetings, as well as a Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA) Hospitality Suite. Region VI was well-represented at the Region V/VI Dinner Sunday night at Pittypaty’s Porch, where plentiful ribs and good home cooking-style plates were served. Tuesday’s Members’ Night Out theme was beach party and live music was performed by the Band of Oz. Members danced the night away after a delicious dinner.
In July, the Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA) got together for a happy hour at the rooftop bar at the Moonrise Hotel on the Delmar Loop. The spacious bar with a great view looking out over the Loop and Forest Park provided a great setting for YEA members to bond with old friends and make connections with industry professionals.
YEA is for members 35 and under and offers a way to get involved, meet your peers, build relationships, and have fun. YEA can help you connect with committee chairs to get involved and offers opportunities to attend ASHRAE-sponsored leadership weekends for young members wanting to grow their leadership skills or involvement with the chaper. We have monthly happy hours and send e-mail invites for each one.
“Our chapter is very lucky to have an active YEA group! By regularly attending YEA events, I’ve been able to grow as a professional, expand my network, strengthen my HVAC technical skill set, and meet a great community of peers!” – Jessica Mangler, Mechanical Engineer, Ross & Baruzzini
In early September, YEA will be hosting a special Grill Masters event which will include grilling lessons and tips from a guest grill master (we also get to eat the food!), yard games, and (of course) refreshments. This event will be limited to 30 people, so keep an eye out for a registration email.
If you would like to be on the mailing list or are interested in attending YEA leadership weekend, contact Mike Mosbacher at firstname.lastname@example.org or send an email to email@example.com.
